Mathematics and measurement units relating to the metre or metric system.
The decimal unit of measurement of the metric system are calculated in multiples of ten, hundred , one-tenth, etc.
The basic metric unit is a meter (for length calculations).
- 1 millimeter = 0.001 meter
- 1 centimeter = 0.01 meter
- 1 decimeter = 0.1 meter

Notice at the bottom of the metric ruler shown in Figure 1 the decimal equivalency can be calculated with either of the four metric units (millimeter, centimeter, decimeter, meter) by selecting one of the option buttons.
